About the glossary

Sustainable development and sustainability transformation have become increasingly important for society and businesses. The UN General Assembly adopted “The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development” during the UN Sustainable Development Summit in 2015. The 2030 Agenda consists of 17 global sustainability goals in economic, social, environmental, and governance areas and calls for the right to life with dignity all around the world and the long-term preservation of natural habitats. The 2030 Agenda, in general, highlights the shared responsibility of all paths of society and of each individual.

The entire business world, industry and sectors are facing an inevitable and historical structural transformation. The need for transformation which started as digitalization has expanded to include sustainability. Sustainability topics and approaches require interdisciplinary, multidisciplinary, and transdisciplinary studies. Similarly, a successful sustainability transformation requires intergenerational, intercompany, and interindustry cooperation.

To rapidly and accurately align with the sustainability transformation and to systematically meet the associated requirements in the future, we need internationally acknowledged conceptual work that is thoroughly explored and adopted by all stakeholders. As Turkish Machinery, we believe that the correct explanation and comprehensive and accurate use of sustainability terminology will provide our industry with global competitiveness growth in sustainability transformation. We are particularly grateful to Ömür Demir KIZILARSLAN and Mehmet Kudret CERAN for their expert contributions to the open-source Green Glossary.
